1. Arcana- Unlike Anything You've Ever Seen
Introverts gather here! Anyone who wants to get away from the business of their lives can also come to take a seat here. Only last year, Arcana opened its first minimalist cabins in a forest just about two hours north of Toronto. The exact location of these cabins is not revealed unless you book them. With this, you know that ultimate privacy is guaranteed.
The cabins are cozy and minimalistic, with impressive architectural design. You can pre-order food from the award-winning chef Shaun Edmonstone of Bruce Wine Bar, and you'll find the delectables in the fridge. You have everything you need here to disconnect from the outside world and connect to yourself.
2. Upper Humber Settlement - Farm, Eat, Sleep
Upper Humber Settlement is Newfoundland and Labrador's only farm bed-and-breakfast. It has held this title well. You will find it in Cormack, just outside Gros Morne National Park. Depending on how much you are willing to spend, how much you value privacy, and whether you are going alone, you can book a room or the entire residence.
A couple, Lauralee and Mark Ledrew, live and work on the expansive farm. They can take you around the farm showing the variety of crops they grow there, including greens and tomatoes. The fascinating part of your stay may be the fire circle, where you learn from Lauralee's experiences. You will also learn a few things about indigenous medicine.
3. Mountain Trek Fitness Retreat & Health Spa- A Hike in the Mountains
The Mountain Trek Fitness Retreat & Health Spa is one of the more active wellness centers. However, despite being more engaging, the place is not overcrowded. The luxury houses usually hold only up to 16 people at a time. The week-long program takes place in a mountain forest above Kootenay Lake.
The program mainly revolves around Nordic hiking for about three to four hours daily. You use about 90% of your body muscles in this walking style. See why it is called an active form of wellness? If interested, you can do other activities like yoga and kickboxing inside. Don't worry; there is lots of time to rest, relax in the jacuzzi, or savor the chefs' tasty meals.
4. Forest Therapy - Learn to Talk to the Trees
This wellness program in Whistler is shorter than most, but that doesn't make it less effective. If you have always wanted to reach the highest level of yourself, this is for you. You've probably wished you could listen to the stream, talk to the trees, and move mountains. Okay, maybe not the last part, but you will learn to do the first two to some extent.
Monica Sander Burns, a forest therapy guide, will be the one to take you through the steps. You will learn to connect to the earth and everything within it for two hours. The journey is said to be inspired by shinrin-yoku, the Japanese tradition of forest bathing. The meditative hours round off with a tea ceremony.
5. Floating Sauna- Rejuvenate, Refresh, Revitalize
Early this year, Tofino Resort and Marina opened a wood-fired floating sauna in a remote part of Clayoquot Sound. For this wellness program, you should plan to spend about five hours. You will take a guided boat tour of your serene environment for half an hour. You will be in a boat that is anything but basic. The whole program screams luxury.
You have to get here by boat, and you get to kick back and detox. At the same time, you can take in the beautiful scenery; the structure has floor-to-ceiling windows. There's also a cook-your-catch option where you can catch prawns and crabs for your chef to cook for dinner.
6. Le Monastère Des Augustines- Wellness Like in the 17th Century
This program takes place in an iconic architectural structure that used to be one of the oldest hospitals in Canada. As you may have guessed, this Quebec City program focuses more on spirituality and mental wellness.
Each day on the grounds of this monastery starts with a freshly-prepared breakfast consumed in silence. A meditation walk and a relaxing movement class in the form of yoga or tai chi often follow. By the end of this journey, you must have found something new within yourself.
