Do you think you'll have trouble deciding which castle(s) to visit? Worry no more; below is a list of the top seven British castles you must visit.
1. Edinburgh Castle, Scotland
Edinburgh Castle is an unmissable landmark of the Scottish capital, perched so high on castle rock that it seems to be reaching the skies. The best part is you don't have to marvel from a distance.
It may sound like a lot of work, but climb up the rock and get into the castle. You'll be glad you did when you get inside and are in awe of the structure. Plan your visit properly, as this would be a lifetime experience!
2. Warwick Castle, England
This castle in England is less mysterious and more laid back and fun to visit. This means you can make it a family visit and bring your kids. Your children will feel like they are in a fairytale movie.
Explore dungeons, towers, and mazes with the little kids. You can do it alone too. The Horrible Histories maze is a fun activity. If you think you haven't done enough after a day, you can spend the night in a glamping tent or a suite in the castle.
3. Dunrobin Castle, Scotland
If we were to picture a storybook castle, Dunrobin Castle is exactly what we would imagine. This castle looks almost too good to be true in its structure, color, and magnitude.
The towering turrets and spires pointing towards the sky make it fancier. The number of windows in this castle alone is innumerable. You can explore many rooms in Dunrobin Castle, including the tearoom, but unfortunately, you can't stay the night. Maximize your time and have the time of your life.
4. Castle Ward, Northern Ireland
Do you remember Winterfell in Game of Thrones? The name may be fictional, but the castle is real and was portrayed by this castle Ward in Northern Ireland.
If you want the ultimate experience, you can choose to cosplay your favorite characters from the iconic series. You can give yourself some prior knowledge even if you haven't watched it. Imagine watching an episode and thinking, "Oh, I've been there before!" It's an unbeatable experience.
5. Windsor Castle, England
Windsor Castle is the oldest and largest castle that is still inhabited today. Many royal family members stay there or visit the castle from time to time. Just by being inhabited, imagine how much more majestic it must be.
You can visit the chapel and rehash your favorite royal wedding. There's something special about visiting places where sentimental events have taken place. We love this for you, so why not book a trip ASAP?
6. Beaumaris Castle, Wales
When this castle was being built, Edward I, like many of us, ran out of money to fund its completion. This resulted in an unfinished castle. But here's the thing, if we didn't tell you, you never would have guessed. This is because Beaumaris Castle looks anything but unfinished, and it is an architectural masterpiece.
The design is unconventional but beautiful. It is also symmetrical from above which must have been hard work for such a complex structure. You can't appreciate the beauty of Beaumaris well enough from a picture or words. Why not visit and see for yourself?
7. Caernarfon Castle, Wales
We mentioned The Crown when we started this article; you thought that was the end, didn't you? Many scenes of this series were filmed at Caernarfon Castle. Among other things, The Crown earns a point for lending such similitude to the show. Now, how would it feel to trace the footsteps of your favorite actor from the show?
The size of this castle is magnanimous. Every inch of the expansive structure is majestic. There are also several attractions within its walls. If you love beautiful buildings and charming castles, you should visit Caernarfon Castle. It has everything you need; all you have to do is go.
